profession: Technical Design, nymag.com

this site: My first blog post went public in early 2003 on welshcrew.com/kevin. After a few years and a few redesigns, I relocated and expanded the site for kevinbarnett.com. This site serves primarily as a creative outlet for myself while putting a timestamp on thoughts and life events. What qualifies as thoughts and life events is still under consideration….

I have been performing acts of technical design and other multimedia chores beginning in elementary school when a good friend and I hijacked his father’s VHS camcorder. I also joined a computer club and learned how to build graphics using BASIC programming on an Apple II. It was at that point that I realized I wanted to be creative in a digital framework, regardless of how much geekery my 4th grade peers accused me of.

Following that ambition, I attended Texas A&M and Columbia College Chicago studying computer engineering, television production, film production and multimedia. I learned a few other programming languages, how to build a website, shoot/edit video + film, graphic design and dabbled in animation. Out of those disciplines, technical design emerged as my favorite and forté.

I am currently living in New York City where photography, music and foodie adventures consume my free time when I am not enjoying the company of my friends and colleagues.
